In conjunction with Stony Brook University - School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, the Evan R. Liblit Memorial Scholarship Fund Committee is pleased to announce the latest of our multi-part free webinar series focusing on a number of environmental issues impacting Long Island.

The management of solid waste generated on Long Island is an important issue and has significant ramifications on the economy and the environment.  Each seminar series will allow participants to learn about various solid waste and recycling issues across Long Island.  Topics will include the latest developments, legislation, and other issues critical to managing our solid waste.  Plus, we will get the perspectives of local government and discuss what municipalities and companies are doing to meet these challenges.  The series will provide excellent insight and perspectives and will benefit all those who work in the fields of environmental protection, recycling, and waste management or would like to better understand these issues.  Best of all…they’re FREE.  Webinars are scheduled for:

April 7th, 12-1   Waste 101

April 14th, 12-1   Recycling Initiatives and Development in NYS

April 21st, 12-1   Food Waste and Recycling

Aril 28th,   12-1   Transportation of Waste

Webinar #1 – Waste 101:  A presentation that provides the audience with an overview of waste management practices across the United States with a more focused review of Long Island.  The presentation reviews the “problem” -- specifically, each person produces 4.6 pounds of waste each day.  We will also review the types of wastes that people and businesses generate (including, auto fluff, C&D waste, medical waste, hazardous waste, municipal solid waste, ash, etc.)  We will cover where waste comes from, where it goes, and how it gets there.  The audience will also learn about the various waste management techniques including waste reduction, recycling, incineration, and landfill disposal.  Other topics that will be discussed include how waste is collected, transferred, transported, and disposed of both on and off Long Island. Speakers include Will Flower, Vice President of Winters Brothers, and Mike Englemann, P.G., Solid Waste Coordinator, Town of Smithtown.
