Partnering on Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Collection Events

Given the current challenges for so many municipalities in the region, the nation and globally, The City of Troy, Town of East Greenbush, and Town of Bethlehem made a decision to partner on a series of inter-municipal Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal events for 2021. These events, scheduled April, June, August and October, will provide residents of the three municipalities the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials not accepted through normal garbage collection service. Each event will allow for a limited number of participants to register from all three municipalities. All events will be held from 8:00 AM – 2:00PM.

Partnering has allowed the municipalities, variously, to: expand annual HHW offerings, offer a new HHW service, share IT services, and share programmatic and administrative knowledge and resources to increase efficiencies. The disposal events are a free service available to residents of these three municipalities only. For ease of traceability and to provide accurate data for the municipalities, all registrations will be done online at: www.BEThhw.org.

Residents without access to the internet can contact their community’s municipal liaison. To manage expenditures for the municipalities, a limited number of electronic coupons are available, and will be issued to registrants prior to each event. For the same reason, individuals who have not pre-registered will be unable to utilize the program. As well, our vendor will set up appointments to collect hazardous waste from businesses and commercial entities; however there will be fees associated with disposal of these materials. This puts the responsibility of managing commercial waste on the vendor rather than the municipalities.
